Our Chapter Events
COACHES POWERING FORWARD
Autism Speaks Coaching Powering Forward was created in 2014 after NCAA Coaches Pat Skerry and Tom Herrion embarked on a mission to raise awareness of autism. Every February, sisters attend a basketball game dedicated to raising awareness for autism. The idea behind this event is to increase global understanding and acceptance of people with autism by wearing the Autism Speaks blue puzzle peace pin during the televised February weekend games.
STEP IT UP 5k
Every fall, we organize a campus-wide 5K race to bring together the Georgia Tech community and raise money for Autism Speaks. Every sister sells tickets and tables in order to promote Autism Speaks, ensuring that everyone on campus has the opportunity to get involved. With baked goods, coffee, and Chick-Fil-A on the morning of the race, the 5K is one our favorite philanthropic events of the year.
In 2016 our chapter raised $27,000 and in 2017 we raised $31,000!
world autism month
For the month of April, Alpha Xi Delta sisters "light it up blue". This consists of us decorating campus with Autism speaks puzzle pieces, passing out blue puzzle piece cookies on Skiles walkway, and lighting up buildings around campus blue. The month culminates in the Autism Speaks walk, in which sisters volunteer at the registration desks.
Sisters and Service
Outside of our chapter philanthropy, sisters are also very passionate about being involved in service efforts on campus and in the surrounding Atlanta community. We have many sisters leading and participating in organizations such as Relay for Life, For the Kids, Sting Hunger, Habitat for Humanity, and many more. Every semester we partner up with other greek organizations on campus to give back to our community and philanthropies, giving us the chance to support each other's causes and share our mutual passion for service.
