Intramural Spotlight by Cammie Frame

Ever since I was little, I loved watching or participating in sports. It didn’t matter to me whether I was the best or the worst player on the team, I just loved being a part of the game and something bigger than myself. Throughout high school, I continued this love of sports by playing softball, basketball, soccer, and track.

Upon coming to college, I wanted to find something similar to the family that I had through my sports; I wanted my own “team”. I knew that joining a sorority would help me find the friendships and bonds that I had throughout high school. When I first visited Alpha Xi, I immediately felt comfortable and saw myself finding the friendships that I was looking for.

During one of my very first chapters, it was announced that we would be starting flag football soon and I was hooked. In my first semester, I played flag football and soccer as a part of Alpha Xi’s intramural team. It was so much fun being able to be on a team again and meet other girls in my sorority who shared the same love for sports as I did. Second semester, I played indoor soccer and was on the Greek Week tug team, which were both new and exciting experiences.

One of my favorite memories from intramurals with Alpha Xi was one of our late-night soccer games around 10 p.m. A lot of girls had tests the next day but we were able to rally enough players to make up a team for the night. When we got to the field, it was drizzling and cold and we only had about six girls. While playing the game, it started to pour on us and we were soaked. We continued to play the game and it was just laughs all around from Alpha Xi and our opposing team. I could not stop laughing and everyone was just having a fun time – it didn’t matter whether we were winning or losing because we were a team.

I have loved continuing my love for sports through Alpha Xi and cannot wait for more intramurals in the Fall! It is a fun way to stay active and get to know other girls in the chapter and it's always a plus when we win. Hoping for many more exciting memories next year!
